AHP Trainings for

Outreach Workers and Their Supervisors

AHP offers three trainings to support California State Office of AIDS-funded outreach work—agencies that receive funding for Targeted Prevention Activities (TPA) and NIGHT Program Services. The trainings focus, in particular, on the process of accessing clients for HIV-related risk and, if appropriate, linking them to HIV counseling and testing. The training program includes a three-day live training for new outreach workers (required), an online training for existing community health workers (required), and an online training for outreach supervisors (recommended).

Three-Day Training for New Outreach Workers	Northern California Southern California	A live, 3-day training required for NEW outreach workers (those who started doing Office of AIDS TPA- or NIGHT-funded after January 1, 2007). Teaches basic outreach skills for encouraging HIV prevention and testing among vulnerable groups. Experienced outreach workers, hired prior to January 1, 2007, may take this training, but will likely find it to be too basic.
Online Training for Experienced Outreach Workers	Online	An online training required for all experienced outreach workers (those who started doing TPA- or NIGHT-funded outreach work before January 1, 2007). Teaches and refreshes advanced outreach skills for encouraging HIV prevention and testing among vulnerable groups.
Online Training for Outreach Worker Supervisors	Online	An online training recommended for supervisors who oversee outreach teams working in TPA- or NIGHT-funded programs.
